The NUTRIS group officially opened the first European hybrid factory for the production of high-quality plant-based ingredients, processing beans and potatoes in Novi Senkovac near Slatina. With an investment worth HRK 220 million, NUTRIS made Croatia one of the first countries to invest in the plant-based food industry, one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. The plant-based products market is expected to reach $77.8 billion by 2025.
The investment was made in partnership with the Danish company Sicca Dania, one of the leading engineering solutions providers for the food industry. The factory uses revolutionary technology developed by the University of Copenhagen over more than 10 years, and Sicca Dania and NUTRIS.tech™ have been intensively tested, further perfected, and proven in an industrial environment.
The factory produces protein isolates, starch, and fibers from beans and potatoes, and currently cooperates with more than 250 farmers and employs 50 specialists. The process of obtaining isolates is sustainable and represents the pinnacle of the global food industry in terms of complexity and investment. The plant-origin ingredients come to market under the name NutriSmart, are of superior quality, suitable for vegetarians and vegans, do not contain gluten or allergens, have a neutral taste, and are produced from local raw materials in the EU. They are intended for food industries in the fastest-growing markets, including the EU, North America, and Asia.
NUTRIS operates according to the circular economy principle, aiming to reduce waste and increase the use of renewable energy sources. The electricity used comes from 100 percent renewable sources, the water is filtered and reused, and the byproduct left after extracting the protein from the beans is used as fertilizer for new fields.
