Croatian Mint’s “Hum – Višnjan Observatory”
The Croatian National Bank issued and the Croatian Mint minted the smallest coin in the world – a gold coin measuring only 1.99 millimetres in diameter and weighing just 0.05 grams, featuring the Istrian town of Hum, known as the smallest town in the world. The coin is part of a limited-edition numismatic set of only 199 pieces, which also includes a one-ounce gold coin featuring the Višnjan Observatory. These are the last gold coins denominated in kuna. The “Hum” gold coin was designed by sculptor Ana Divković, while the “Višnjan Observatory” gold coin was designed by sculptor Nikola Vudrag.
The story of the product is inspired by discovery and the innate human desire to explore. Throughout history, this curiosity has driven us to cross seas, discover new knowledge, explore the Earth and the skies, and eventually reach into space. The packaging concept for the Hum – Višnjan Observatory set follows this journey of exploration, creating an experience in which the precious contents are gradually revealed.
Special attention was given to the exclusive packaging of this unique set. A rigid box wrapped in special dark blue paper unfolds like a map, gradually revealing its precious contents and turning the opening process into an experience of discovery. With each step, another part of the set is revealed, guided by golden text. Once fully opened, the Hum and Višnjan Observatory gold coins appear against a surface illuminated by numerous tiny lights, creating the impression of a starry sky. The box also contains protective cotton gloves and a magnifying glass for viewing the world’s smallest coin.
